* ITEM: In August 1993, the Baltimore Sun conducted a call-in/mail-in poll to name their new NFL expansion team.  The name "Ravens" was the surprise winner, followed by Bombers, Rhinos, Cobras and the "Hons," a local Baltimore term of endearment.  Glazer and Weinglass, two potential owners of the team, decided to go with "Bombers" for their expansion team's name. 

 

For the record, Weinglass for some reason had an affection for the name "Rhinos" as well.
